THIS BLOG: AN APOLOGY

In Uncategorized on January 14, 2013 at 10:18 am

We are taking this opportunity to apologise for a serious breach of our readers’ trust.

We accept the findings of the Levity Commission that the content of this blog, although intended as satirical caricature, has consistently failed to match the levels of weird nastiness prevalent in the reality we are attempting to burlesque.

We were unable to caricature the incident in which the government Skills Minister was unable to get out of bed in time to make a TV interview on benefit scroungers, unless – as the “minister’s” personal appearance strongly suggests – the whole incident was merely a clever student hoax.

We have failed to make up anything comparable to the backbench Tory MP who reckons nobody thinks £65,000 a year is a lot of money, or the London mayor who regards a £250,000 salary for a weekly column as ‘chickenfeed,’ while representing a party which advises that we are ‘all in this together‘ in times of austerity when disabled jobseekers are having their benefits cut to £67 per week and eleven million people are hungry in the world’s sixth biggest economy, while most Britons think the biggest problem they’ve got is too many immigrants.

We hope this apology will allow us to draw a line under a period during which we have consistently failed to meet the high standards of exaggeration which our readers rightly expect of us.

We look forward to regaining their trust.
